Everything You Need to Know About Custom Holographic Stickers in Canada

A holographic sticker is your design printed in full colour on a film that shifts through the rainbow as it moves under light. Where the art is light or open, the film shows through; where it is dark and solid, the ink covers it. The effect is in the material, not the print, so it never fades the way a printed rainbow would.
How ours are made
The film prints on our wide-format printer in Toronto and is contour cut to your shape, with a border of bare film or a tight cut. The studio previews the film under your art so you can see where the shift will land.
Sizes and shapes
Any shape from 1 to 23.5 inches, priced by finished area and quantity, with a small per-square-inch premium over white vinyl for the film. See the whole material range on the die-cut stickers page.
All five sit under the ink; they differ in how they catch light.
Holographic
A smooth rainbow that sweeps across the sticker as it moves. The classic.
Prismatic
Small mirror facets that flash individually, a sharper, busier sparkle.
Glitter
A fine even sparkle under the print, like flake in paint. See glitter stickers.
Silver and gold chrome
A mirror finish with no rainbow. Light colours read as tinted metal; the metal shows wherever the art is open.
Choosing
Holographic for the widest appeal, prismatic for maximum flash, glitter for softness, chrome for a premium seal or badge.
The film only shows where the ink does not cover it, so the design decides how much effect you get.
Open space
White and very light areas in your file print as little or no ink, so the film shows there at full strength. Line art, outlines and lettering with open backgrounds show the most rainbow.
Solid colour
Dark, saturated areas cover the film completely and print as normal colour. Mid-tones and pastels print as a tint over the film, which reads as a coloured shimmer.
Borders
A bare-film border around the art is the easiest way to show the effect on every sticker.
Preview
The studio shows the film under your art; the real thing shifts more than any screen can.
Holographic is the sticker people choose when the sticker itself is the product.

Reading the ladder
Each row is a quantity break. The studio shows the same ladder for your exact size, so you can see whether the next break costs less in total than the run you planned. It often does.
Larger runs
Past the top break, or for a mix of sizes and materials, ask for a quote. Business accounts see the same live grid online.
Effect films are printed vinyl like the rest, with two honest limits.
Indoors
Holographic, prismatic and glitter films are best indoors, on laptops, bottles, packaging and displays; direct sun and weather dull the effect faster than they dull white vinyl. Chrome films manage short-term outdoor use.
Scuffs
The mirror surface shows scratches more than a matte sticker. Keep them off high-abrasion spots like the underside of a laptop.
Water
Water-resistant once set; hand washing is fine, dishwashers are not.
One inch to 23.5 inches on the longest side, any proportion, contour or shape cut.
Where the film shows best
Two to four inches is the sweet spot: large enough for the rainbow to sweep, small enough to move in the hand. Very large holographic pieces read as a coloured sheet rather than a shift.
Borders
Bare-film borders show the effect; a white border prints as ink and hides it. The studio previews both.
Sticker pricing rewards volume because the setup is the same for ten pieces and a thousand.
Quantity breaks
The ladder in the studio shows the price per sticker at every break for your size. Stepping up a break often costs little more in total and leaves stock for the next event.
Mixed orders
Add as many designs, sizes and materials as you like to one cart; each line prices on its own quantity.
Reorders
Saved designs stay on your account. Reorder in a new quantity or on a new material with no artwork to send again.
Very large runs
Past the top break, ask for a quote. We price large and recurring runs by hand and can set up business invoicing.
Upload a transparent PNG, SVG or PDF as for any sticker. Two extra notes for film.
White in the file
White prints as no ink on these films, so white text becomes rainbow text. If you want solid white, it needs to be a printed light grey or the sticker needs a white base material.
Fine detail
Prismatic and glitter textures soften hairline detail; keep lines and text a little bolder than on white vinyl.
A chrome or holographic sticker signals premium at a sticker price.
Seals and closures
Gold chrome seals on gift boxes, silver chrome on tech packaging, holographic on limited runs.
Retail
Price-point and "new" stickers that catch the eye on a shelf.

Sticker vinyl is a plastic film with an adhesive layer, and it is fair to say so plainly.
What it is
Holographic, prismatic and glitter stickers are a metallised or flake-filled PVC film with a permanent adhesive on a paper backing.
Disposal
Vinyl stickers are not recyclable in household programs. Backing paper often is, depending on your municipality.
Less waste in production
Pieces are nested tightly on the roll to use less material, and every order prints to the quantity you order rather than to a stock run. Ordering what you will use is the biggest saving, and small runs are easy in the studio.
Spring: market-season limited editions. Summer: festival packs and water-bottle specials. Fall: launch and event stickers, Halloween prismatic. Winter: holiday gift seals in gold chrome, sticker-sheet gift sets in holographic.
