Everything You Need to Know About 18×24 Poster Printing in Canada
Printed in Toronto, shipped across Canada
18 by 24 inches is the standard large poster size in Canada: big enough to read across a room or from the sidewalk, small enough to fit ready-made frames, poster sleeves and standard easels. Venues, retailers, schools and artists all default to it.
How ours are made
Posters print on our wide-format printer in Toronto on gloss or matte poster paper and are trimmed to size. One poster prices the same way as two hundred, on the same live ladder.
Other sizes
8 by 10, 11 by 17, 12 by 18 and any custom size from 8 to 24 inches on the longest side are on the custom posters page.
Both papers print the same file; the surface changes how it reads at this size.
Gloss
Deeper colour and contrast for photos, art prints, gig posters and anything with rich colour. Reflects lights, so less suited to a spot under bright spotlights or behind glass without a matte.
Matte
Glare-free at any angle for text-heavy posters, wayfinding, schedules and framed prints under glass or bright lighting.
Both
Indoor papers. Frame them or pin them, and keep them dry.
The size suits four places.
Windows
Retail and venue windows read from the sidewalk. For a reusable window graphic on the glass itself, see window clings.
Walls and boards
School hallways, community boards, office notice walls, campus kiosks.
Lobbies and easels
Welcome posters, event schedules, sponsor boards and menus on a standard easel.
Frames
Art prints, photo enlargements and framed signage in ready-made 18 by 24 frames.
At 18 by 24 a file's resolution shows.
Photos
Aim for at least 2,700 by 3,600 pixels (150 pixels per inch); a modern phone's full-size photo is usually enough, a screenshot or a web image is not.
Vector
Text, logos and flat illustration as PDF or SVG print sharp at any size.
The studio checks
Upload and the studio warns if the file is too small for the size. When in doubt, use the original file, not one sent through a messaging app.
18×24 posters are priced per piece by size and quantity, in Canadian dollars, with no setup fee. Gloss and matte price the same at 18 by 24. Colour count and artwork make no difference.

Reading the ladder
Each row is a quantity break. The studio shows the same ladder for your exact choice, so you can see whether the next break costs less in total than the run you planned. It often does.
Larger runs
Past the top break, or for a mix of sizes and designs, ask for a quote. Business accounts see the same live grid online.
There is no minimum on posters and no setup fee, so a single framed print and a two-hundred-poster campaign order the same way.
Singles
Art prints, photo enlargements, a poster for the office.
Small runs
10 to 50 for a show, a school event or a retail promotion across a few stores.
Campaigns
100 and up for multi-location retail, city-wide postering and sponsor packs, where the per-poster price falls furthest.
A large poster is read from a distance and in a glance.
Hierarchy
One headline at 120 points or larger, one image, the details at 30 points or more. Dates and prices bigger than instinct suggests.
Margins
Keep text an inch from the edge; frames and sleeves cover the outer half inch.
Colour
High contrast reads across a room; large flat colour fields print evenly on both papers.
Pricing rewards volume because the setup is the same for one poster and two hundred.
Quantity breaks
The ladder in the studio shows the price per poster at every break. Stepping up a break often costs little more in total and leaves stock for the next event.
Mixed orders
Add as many designs and sizes as you like to one cart; each line prices on its own quantity.
Reorders
Saved designs stay on your account. Reorder in a new quantity or a new size with no artwork to send again.
Very large runs
Past the top break, ask for a quote. We price large and recurring runs by hand and can set up business invoicing.
Upload a PDF, SVG, or a large PNG or JPG at 18 by 24 proportions (3:4). The studio keeps the proportions, shows the trim and a safe area for text, and handles bleed, so run backgrounds to the edge. Files in other proportions are shown with the crop before you order.
Poster paper is for indoor display. Frame it, pin it, tape it with removable tape or mount it on foam board. Keep out of direct sun to hold colour longest, keep dry, and handle by the edges; gloss shows fingerprints more than matte. Posters ship flat in rigid mailers or rolled in tubes for larger runs.

Because they are made where the shirts are, an order of posters, stickers, buttons and tees is one order with one proof set and one tracking number.

What it is
Posters are a coated poster paper, gloss or matte, printed in full colour and trimmed square.
Disposal
Poster paper goes in household paper recycling in most municipalities. Gloss paper is coated but still accepted by most programs; check yours.
Less waste in production
Every order is made to the quantity you order rather than to a stock run. Ordering what you will use is the biggest saving, and small runs are easy in the studio.
January: new-year sale windows and winter program posters. Spring: concert and festival season, school plays and graduation. Summer: patio menus, market and fair posters. Fall: back-to-school notices, campaign season, Halloween events. December: holiday windows and gift-card posters.
