Everything You Need to Know About Water-Resistant Stickers in Canada

Every printed vinyl sticker we make is water-resistant: rain, condensation, spills, hand washing and wiping do not lift the print or the adhesive once it has set. We say water-resistant rather than waterproof because no printed sticker is made for a dishwasher or for soaking, and because sun and abrasion, not water, are what wear a sticker out.
The materials
Standard white gloss and matte vinyl handle bottles, laptops and packaging. Heavy-duty gloss is a thicker vinyl for equipment, bins, vehicles and anything handled or peeled.

Heavy-duty gloss is a thicker, semi-rigid white vinyl with a permanent adhesive.
Why thicker
It resists edge lift and tearing when a sticker is handled, scraped or peeled at, and it stays flat on surfaces that flex.
Where it belongs
Toolboxes, equipment, bins, helmets, vehicles, outdoor signage and anything that lives outside.
Price

Bottles are where most stickers live and most stickers fail.
Choose the vinyl
Standard gloss or matte for stainless and plastic bottles that are hand washed; heavy-duty for bottles that go on hikes and in bags.
Size and curve
Two to three inches wraps a bottle cleanly; larger stickers on tight curves lift at the edges.
Care
Hand wash. A dishwasher's heat and detergent lift any printed sticker over time.
Clear option
For a logo that looks printed on the bottle, see clear stickers.
Vinyl handles weather better than it handles sunlight.
Rain and snow
Fine, on a clean surface with a day to set.
Sun
Expect the print to hold well for a season or two in direct sun, longer in shade. Indoors it lasts far longer.
Cold
Apply above about 10°C; once set, vinyl tolerates Canadian winters.
Surfaces
Smooth, clean, dry: metal, glass, painted surfaces, hard plastic. Textured or oily surfaces shorten the life.
Water-resistant stickers are priced per piece by finished area and quantity, in Canadian dollars, with no setup fee. Heavy-duty gloss carries a small per-square-inch premium over standard gloss. Shape, colour count and border style make no difference.

Reading the ladder
Each row is a quantity break. The studio shows the same ladder for your exact size, so you can see whether the next break costs less in total than the run you planned. It often does.
Larger runs
Past the top break, or for a mix of sizes and materials, ask for a quote. Business accounts see the same live grid online.

Reorders
Saved designs stay on your account. Reorder in a new quantity or on a new material with no artwork to send again.
Very large runs
Past the top break, ask for a quote. We price large and recurring runs by hand and can set up business invoicing.

Clean
Wipe the surface with rubbing alcohol and let it dry.
Warm
Apply at room temperature or above; cold surfaces stop the adhesive bonding.
Firm
Smooth from one edge with a card to push out air, then press the edges.
Patient
Give it a day before water or handling.
Durable does not have to mean forever.
Permanent
Standard and heavy-duty gloss bond firmly and come off with heat and patience, possibly leaving adhesive.
Removable
A low-tack vinyl that peels cleanly for months from smooth surfaces: demo units, rentals, seasonal signage. See removable stickers.

What it is
Heavy-duty stickers are a thicker semi-rigid PVC film with a permanent adhesive on a paper backing.
Disposal
Vinyl stickers are not recyclable in household programs. Backing paper often is, depending on your municipality.
Less waste in production
Pieces are nested tightly on the roll to use less material, and every order prints to the quantity you order rather than to a stock run. Ordering what you will use is the biggest saving, and small runs are easy in the studio.
Spring: bikes, kayaks and garden equipment. Summer: coolers, water bottles, camp gear. Fall: helmets and hockey gear, school equipment. Winter: skis, boards and toolboxes.
