Everything You Need to Know About Custom Clear Stickers in Canada

A clear sticker is your design printed on transparent vinyl with a permanent adhesive and cut to shape. Wherever there is no ink, the surface behind shows through, so a logo on a jar looks printed on the jar, and a label on glass looks like it belongs to the glass.
How ours are made
The clear film prints on our wide-format printer in Toronto and is contour cut to your shape. The studio previews the sticker over a light and a dark surface so you can see exactly how the transparency reads.
The one honest limit
Our process prints colour without a white underlayer. Light colours and pastels look translucent, and white in your file prints as nothing at all. Bold, saturated, dark art is what clear does best; the die-cut stickers page covers the white-base materials for everything else.
Clear rewards a particular kind of artwork.
What works
Black and dark line art, saturated logos, bold lettering, solid shapes. On glass and dark surfaces these read crisp and finished.
What to avoid
White text and white fills (they print as nothing), pastels and light tints (they go translucent), photographs with light skies, and fine hairlines.
Preview it
The studio shows the design over light and dark backgrounds. If the light preview looks washed out, add a dark outline or choose white gloss instead.
Clear is the label for surfaces you want to keep seeing.
Glass and bottles
Jars, candles, sauce bottles, cosmetics, drinkware: the print sits on the glass with no white square around it.
Packaging
Clear logo seals on kraft boxes and tissue, product labels on coloured packaging where the colour should show.
Windows and displays
Small clear decals on shop glass and display cases. For larger window graphics with no adhesive, see window clings.
Devices
Laptops, phone cases and water bottles where the surface colour is part of the look.

Permanent adhesive. For anything that should stay put: bottles, packaging, devices, long-term signage.
Clear window cling

Both print the same way
No white underlayer, so the same design rules apply.
Clear stickers are priced per piece by finished area and quantity, in Canadian dollars, with no setup fee. Clear vinyl carries a small per-square-inch premium over white vinyl. Shape, colour count and border style make no difference.

Reading the ladder
Each row is a quantity break. The studio shows the same ladder for your exact size, so you can see whether the next break costs less in total than the run you planned. It often does.
Larger runs
Past the top break, or for a mix of sizes and materials, ask for a quote. Business accounts see the same live grid online.
Clear vinyl is water-resistant and best indoors.
Water
Fine on jars and bottles that are hand washed; not dishwasher safe.
Sun
Indoors it lasts a long time; in direct sun the ink fades sooner because there is no white base behind it.
Application
Clean glass with alcohol, apply from one edge, smooth out air. Bubbles show more on clear than on white, so take your time.
One inch to 23.5 inches, any shape.
Labels
1.5 to 3 inches for jars, candles and cosmetics.
Decals
4 to 12 inches for windows, cases and equipment.
Borders
A clear border around the art is invisible and protects the edges; the studio can also cut tight to the art.
Sticker pricing rewards volume because the setup is the same for ten pieces and a thousand.
Quantity breaks
The ladder in the studio shows the price per sticker at every break for your size. Stepping up a break often costs little more in total and leaves stock for the next event.
Mixed orders
Add as many designs, sizes and materials as you like to one cart; each line prices on its own quantity.
Reorders
Saved designs stay on your account. Reorder in a new quantity or on a new material with no artwork to send again.
Very large runs
Past the top break, ask for a quote. We price large and recurring runs by hand and can set up business invoicing.

Remove the white
A white background in a JPG prints as nothing on clear, which is usually what you want; the background remover handles it.
Check the light preview
If light elements disappear in the studio preview, darken them or add an outline.
Detail
Keep text above roughly 8 points and avoid hairlines.
Clear is the label material for food, drink, candles and cosmetics.
Product labels
Order a run per flavour or scent, or a clear sticker sheet with the whole range on one page.
Packaging seals
Logo seals on tissue and kraft where a white sticker would look pasted on.
Glass signage
Small hours and payment decals on doors and cases.

Sticker vinyl is a plastic film with an adhesive layer, and it is fair to say so plainly.
What it is
Clear stickers are transparent PVC film with a permanent adhesive on a paper or film backing.
Disposal
Vinyl stickers are not recyclable in household programs. Backing paper often is, depending on your municipality.
Less waste in production
Pieces are nested tightly on the roll to use less material, and every order prints to the quantity you order rather than to a stock run. Ordering what you will use is the biggest saving, and small runs are easy in the studio.
Spring: candle and jam labels for market season. Summer: drinkware and bottle decals. Fall: cosmetics and gift-set labels. Winter: holiday packaging seals on kraft and tissue, and window decals for retail.
