A puff heat transfer is a heat-transfer vinyl that expands when pressed, leaving a raised, padded finish that stands a millimetre or two off the fabric. It is the look on streetwear logos, varsity lettering and retro brand marks, and it photographs and feels unlike any flat print.
Two ways to get it
Printed puff carries your full-colour design on white puff vinyl, contour cut. Puff cut vinyl is one solid colour cut from a roll in 33 colours. Both rise the same way.
How ours are made

Printed puff
Multi-colour logos, gradients and illustrations. The print sits on white puff vinyl and rises with it. Fine detail softens as the vinyl puffs, so keep it bold.
Puff cut vinyl
One colour per piece, the colour of the roll, in 33 colours. Cleanest for lettering, numbers and single-colour logos. Layer two transfers for two colours.
Price
Both carry a small per-square-inch premium over flat vinyl, shown live in the studio.
Puff rewards simple shapes and punishes detail.
What works
Chunky lettering, block numbers, simple logos and thick outlines. Rounded type puffs beautifully.
What to avoid
Hairlines, small text and tight inner counters; they close up as the vinyl rises. Keep printed-puff text above 14 points and cut-puff lettering above about 24 points.
Spacing
Leave more space between letters than you would for a flat print; puff widens each stroke slightly.
Every order ships with the settings for its vinyl. Puff has one habit of its own.
Prepare
Pre-press the garment for a few seconds. Position the transfer, carrier up.
Press
Press at the card's temperature and time with medium pressure; the vinyl rises during the press.
Peel cold
Let the transfer cool completely before peeling the carrier, or the puff flattens. The card says so, and it matters.
Do not re-press
A second press with a hot platen flattens the puff. To finish seams nearby, cover the puff with a cloth.
Puff transfers are priced per piece by finished area and quantity, in Canadian dollars, with no setup fee. Puff carries a small per-square-inch premium over standard vinyl. There is no colour charge; puff and silicone carry a small per-square-inch premium over standard.

Reading the ladder
Each row is a quantity break. The studio shows the same ladder for your exact choice, so you can see whether the next break costs less in total than the run you planned. It often does.
Larger runs
Past the top break, or for a mix of sizes and designs, ask for a quote. Business accounts see the same live grid online.

Turn inside out, wash cold, hang or tumble low. No bleach or softener, and never iron over the puff; heat flattens it.
Feel over time
Puff softens a little with wear and keeps its height with cold washing.
Pricing rewards volume because the setup is the same for ten transfers and a thousand.
Quantity breaks
The ladder in the studio shows the price per transfer at every break. Stepping up a break often costs little more in total and leaves stock for the next event.
Mixed orders
Add as many designs and sizes as you like to one cart; each line prices on its own quantity.
Reorders
Saved designs stay on your account. Reorder in a new quantity or a new size with no artwork to send again.
Very large runs
Past the top break, ask for a quote. We price large and recurring runs by hand and can set up business invoicing.
Puff presses on cotton, polyester and blends. Heavyweight cotton tees and fleece hoodies show the raised edge best; thin, stretchy fabrics show it less. Test one on nylon, coated or heat-sensitive fabrics, or ask us to press them.
Upload a transparent PNG, SVG or PDF. For printed puff the studio traces the cut line; for puff cut vinyl it checks that every stroke can be cut and weeded and warns below about 24 points. Thicken thin lines and open up tight counters before uploading.
Puff transfers are printed on white heat-transfer vinyl on our own wide-format printers in our North York, Toronto facility, contour cut, weeded by hand and supplied on a carrier sheet, by the team that has pressed custom apparel for Canadians since 2013.

Puff is the finish most people would rather have pressed by someone with a press. Order finished hoodies and tees through our heat transfer service and we price the garment and the application together, cold peel included. Transfers alone suit shops and brands with their own press.
A printed heat transfer is a polyurethane film with a printed face on a carrier sheet, and it is fair to say so plainly.
What it is
Puff transfers are an expanding polyurethane heat-transfer vinyl, printed in full colour or cut from a coloured roll, on a clear application carrier.
Disposal
The carrier sheet and weeded excess are not recyclable in household programs. Once pressed, the transfer is part of the garment and lives as long as it does.
Less waste in production
Every order is made to the quantity you order rather than to a stock run. Ordering what you will use is the biggest saving, and small runs are easy in the studio.
Fall and winter: hoodies and heavyweight tees, where puff belongs. Spring: varsity and team crests for the new season. Summer: kids camp names and retro festival merch.
