Everything You Need to Know About Reflective Heat Transfer Vinyl in Canada

Reflective heat transfer vinyl carries a layer of tiny glass beads that send light back toward its source. By day it looks silver-grey, black, white or a muted colour; under headlights or a camera flash it lights up. We cut it to your design on a contour cutter, weed it by hand, and ship it on a carrier ready to press.
Eleven colours
High-reflective silver, black and white are the brightest; the coloured reflectives trade some brightness for a daytime colour.
What it is not
Our reflective vinyl is a decorative and visibility finish. It is not a certified high-visibility safety product and does not make a garment compliant with workplace hi-vis standards. See all eight finishes on the cut vinyl heat transfers page.

Every order ships with the temperature, time, pressure and peel for reflective.
Prepare
Pre-press the garment for a few seconds. Position the transfer, carrier up.
Press
Press at the card's temperature and time with medium pressure.
Peel
Peel as the card says for this finish.
Fabrics
Cotton, polyester and blends. Running and cycling gear is often nylon or coated; test one first or ask us to press.
Reflective transfers are priced per piece by finished area and quantity, in Canadian dollars, with no setup fee. Reflective is one of the higher-priced cut vinyl finishes per square inch, because the roll is. The finish sets a per-square-inch premium over the base roll; artwork complexity makes no difference.

Reading the ladder
Each row is a quantity break. The studio shows the same ladder for your exact choice, so you can see whether the next break costs less in total than the run you planned. It often does.
Larger runs
Past the top break, or for a mix of sizes and designs, ask for a quote. Business accounts see the same live grid online.
High-reflective silver, black and white are the workhorses: brightest return, neutral by day. The eight coloured reflectives, including red, blue, green, orange, pink and gold, show a colour by day and reflect a lighter version of it at night, with less brightness than the silver. The studio shows every swatch.
Pressed correctly, reflective vinyl washes with the garment for many cycles and tolerates warmer washes than the other finishes.
Care
Turn inside out, wash cold or warm, hang or tumble low. No bleach, no softener, never iron over the vinyl.
Reflectivity over time
The bead layer dulls slowly with abrasion; a jacket worn and washed weekly keeps a strong return for a long time.
Pricing rewards volume because the setup is the same for ten transfers and a thousand.
Quantity breaks
The ladder in the studio shows the price per transfer at every break. Stepping up a break often costs little more in total and leaves stock for the next event.
Mixed orders
Add as many designs and sizes as you like to one cart; each line prices on its own quantity.
Reorders
Saved designs stay on your account. Reorder in a new quantity or a new size with no artwork to send again.
Very large runs
Past the top break, ask for a quote. We price large and recurring runs by hand and can set up business invoicing.
Crews, contractors, delivery fleets and event staff put a reflective logo on the jacket for branding that shows at dusk.
Honest positioning
A reflective logo is not a substitute for a certified hi-vis vest where one is required. Wear both.
Ordering
Order the transfers to press onto your own gear, or finished jackets and hoodies through our heat transfer service. Business customers order online with the same live grid; standing orders and invoicing are a quote away.
Upload an SVG or PDF, or a transparent PNG for the studio to trace. The studio checks that the detail can be cut and weeded and warns below about 24 points. Fill shapes rather than outlining them; a filled logo reflects, a hairline logo barely does. Colour in the file does not matter; the vinyl colour you pick is the colour.
Reflective transfers are cut on our own contour cutters from the finish and colour you choose, weeded by hand and supplied on a carrier sheet, in our North York, Toronto facility, by the team that has pressed custom apparel for Canadians since 2013.
One order, one box
Because they are made where the shirts are, an order of transfers, stickers, buttons and blank or printed tees is one order with one proof set and one tracking number.

Where the big sites win is very large runs of one product. Past our top break, ask for a quote and compare like for like.
Reflective needs a light source pointed at it and returns that light, so it works for traffic and cameras. Glow stores light and releases it in the dark, so it works in a dark room or a field. For running and cycling near cars, reflective; for camp, costumes and parties, glow; layer both for a design that does each.
Cut vinyl is a polyurethane or polyester film on a carrier sheet, and it is fair to say so plainly.
What it is
Reflective transfers are a glass-bead polyester heat-transfer film, cut from a coloured roll, on a clear application carrier.
Disposal
The carrier and weeded excess are not recyclable in household programs. Once pressed, the vinyl is part of the garment and lives as long as it does.
Less waste in production
Every order is made to the quantity you order rather than to a stock run. Ordering what you will use is the biggest saving, and small runs are easy in the studio.
Fall: the biggest season, as evenings darken and running clubs, schools and crews restock jackets. Winter: dog-walking coats and delivery fleet jackets. Spring: cycling club kit and race gear. Summer: early-morning run crews and camp backpacks.
