Everything You Need to Know About Glow-in-the-Dark Heat Transfers in Canada
Printed in Toronto, shipped across Canada
Glow-in-the-dark heat transfer vinyl is a heat-transfer vinyl loaded with a phosphorescent pigment. It looks pale green, white or a soft pastel by day, charges under daylight or room light, and glows in the dark for a while afterwards. We cut it to your design on a contour cutter, weed it by hand, and ship it on a carrier ready to press.
How it behaves
A few minutes under bright light gives a strong glow that fades over the following minutes to a soft one; the brighter and longer the charge, the longer it lasts. It recharges endlessly.
Six colours
Classic green plus white, blue, pink, orange and yellow, each with a slightly different daytime tint and glow colour. See all eight finishes on the cut vinyl heat transfers page.
Glow is chosen for fun first and visibility second.

A glow transfer is seen twice.
By day
The vinyl is pale, so it reads best on dark garments. On white shirts it nearly disappears until dark, which can be the point.
By night
Solid shapes glow brightest; thin lines glow faintly. Keep lettering bold and shapes filled.
Combine
Layer glow over or beside a flat or glitter vinyl so the design reads in daylight and changes at night.
Every order ships with the temperature, time, pressure and peel for glow.
Prepare
Pre-press the garment for a few seconds. Position the transfer, carrier up.
Press
Press at the card's temperature and time with medium pressure.
Peel
Peel as the card says for this finish.
Fabrics
Cotton, polyester and blends. Test one on nylon, coated or heat-sensitive fabrics, or ask us to press.
Glow-in-the-dark transfers are priced per piece by finished area and quantity, in Canadian dollars, with no setup fee. Glow is one of the higher-priced cut vinyl finishes per square inch, because the roll is. The finish sets a per-square-inch premium over the base roll; artwork complexity makes no difference.

Reading the ladder
Each row is a quantity break. The studio shows the same ladder for your exact choice, so you can see whether the next break costs less in total than the run you planned. It often does.
Larger runs
Past the top break, or for a mix of sizes and designs, ask for a quote. Business accounts see the same live grid online.
Glow pigment stores light and releases it.
Charging
Daylight charges fastest; a bright room light works; a phone flashlight held close charges a spot in seconds.
Glow
Bright for the first minutes, then a soft glow that is visible in a dark room for a good while after. It is not a light source and will not glow all night from a short charge.
Colours
Green glows brightest and longest; the pastel colours glow softer.
Pressed correctly, glow vinyl washes with the garment for many cycles and keeps glowing; the pigment does not wash out.
Care
Turn inside out, wash cold, hang or tumble low. No bleach, no softener, never iron over the vinyl.
Pricing rewards volume because the setup is the same for ten transfers and a thousand.
Quantity breaks
The ladder in the studio shows the price per transfer at every break. Stepping up a break often costs little more in total and leaves stock for the next event.
Mixed orders
Add as many designs and sizes as you like to one cart; each line prices on its own quantity.
Reorders
Saved designs stay on your account. Reorder in a new quantity or a new size with no artwork to send again.
Very large runs
Past the top break, ask for a quote. We price large and recurring runs by hand and can set up business invoicing.
October is when glow vinyl sells. Skeleton ribs on a black tee, ghost faces, spider webs on a hoodie, a family set of "boo" shirts, a class set for the school parade. Order in September; the studio prices a class set on one line per design.
Upload an SVG or PDF, or a transparent PNG for the studio to trace. The studio checks that the detail can be cut and weeded and warns below about 24 points. Fill shapes rather than outlining them; a filled skull glows, a hairline skull barely does.
Glow-in-the-dark transfers are cut on our own contour cutters from the finish and colour you choose, weeded by hand and supplied on a carrier sheet, in our North York, Toronto facility, by the team that has pressed custom apparel for Canadians since 2013.
One order, one box
Because they are made where the shirts are, an order of transfers, stickers, buttons and blank or printed tees is one order with one proof set and one tracking number.

Cut vinyl is a polyurethane or polyester film on a carrier sheet, and it is fair to say so plainly.
What it is
Glow transfers are a phosphorescent-pigment polyurethane heat-transfer vinyl, cut from a coloured roll, on a clear application carrier.
Disposal
The carrier and weeded excess are not recyclable in household programs. Once pressed, the vinyl is part of the garment and lives as long as it does.
Less waste in production
Every order is made to the quantity you order rather than to a stock run. Ordering what you will use is the biggest saving, and small runs are easy in the studio.
Summer: camp names, glow runs, night markets and festivals. September: order for Halloween. October: costumes and school parades. Winter: pyjamas and New Year's party shirts.
